Infiltration:

Infiltration is the process of water being absorbed into the ground. This allows water to seep into the earth and be stored underground as groundwater. Water is absorbed at all different infiltration rates, the rates of absorption and downward movement of water into the soil layer.

A number of factors such as soil type, slope, moisture conditions, and intensity of storm event affect how water travels through this cycle.
